How Do I Maintain Scalp Micropigmentation After the Procedure?
If you've gotten scalp micropigmentation done, or plan to get the procedure done, there are probably a dozen questions in your mind. One of them being, "How do I take care of my scalp?"
It's understandable that you're worried that the procedure won't last. Although that's not true, it is true that everything depends on how well you take care of your scalp after the procedure and on your lifestyle. Everyone is different and SMP works differently for different people but there are certain things you can do to ensure your SMP lasts at least 4 to 6 years, like it's supposed to.
With that in mind, here's what you should do to maintain your SMP:
· Avoid Going to the Gym
Yes, that's right! Even though going to the gym is good for you but excessive sweating isn't good for SMP. Don't worry. This doesn't mean you can't exercise or hit the gym anymore. It simply means avoiding working out for a few days. You will need to avoid going to the gym for a week. If you do sweat, use a paper towel to gently pat the area so that the towel absorbs all of the sweat. Sweat can ruin the pigmentation and it will take the pigment a few days to settle down.
· Avoid Saunas
Avoid swimming pools and saunas because you can't get your scalp wet. You need to be extra careful because swimming pools have chlorinated water and saunas make you sweat excessively. The chlorine can ruin the pigment and even erase it. As mentioned previously, the pigment needs a few days to settle in. Water and sweat can affect the results.
· Avoid Touching the Treated Area
The scalp will be bruised and pink for at least 3 days. It will be extra sensitive during the healing process. Using your bare hands can lead to infections so make sure to avoid it at all costs. No matter what you do, do not touch the treated area with your hands.
Furthermore, you can wear a hat or beanie but make sure it doesn't irritate your scalp. If it starts irritating your scalp, don't wear it for a few days.
These are three major things you need to keep in mind before or after getting SMP done. Of course, you only need to take these precautions for a few days so there's nothing to worry about!
